A guard now stand outside the doors of the cafe to prevent users from entering and to stop them harassing customers enjoying a drink at tables in front of the branch.

A Caffè Nero spokesperson said: “This area is known for its anti-social behaviour.

“Some of our team members there have suffered both verbal and physical abuse as a result, which is wholly unacceptable.

“They are very often young women and we simply cannot tolerate them being put into these situations.

“Their safety and well-being is our absolute priority.”

The move comes as a Spice addict was today banned from the city centre for two years for openly smoking drugs, abusing members of the public and shop workers as well as aggressively begging.
