Deputy Mario Potvin says helping the homeless is his calling
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - Broward Sheriff's Office Deputy Mario Potvin reminded the South Florida community this week that he is truly here to serve and protect after he was caught on camera helping out a homeless man in Pompano Beach.
A security guard at a shopping plaza at 12 N. Federal Highway witnessed Potvin handing clean clothes to the man and immediately began recording the incident.
"We're helping out the homeless because they are human beings, too," Potvin told the security guard. "They have a hard time, but they are good people."
Get certified through the IFPO and climb the ladder in the security industry!
"Alright man, that's what's up. One love, man. One love," the security guard said.
Potvin said he enjoys helping people in need, especially those with no place to call home.
"I consider them family. This is my calling," he said.
The security guard turned the camera toward himself during the encounter, reminding those who are watching, "All cops not bad. All cops not bad, man."
Potvin, who works road patrol in Pompano Beach, has been with the BSO for 15 years.
