COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - A security guard shot during a disturbance outside of a Council Bluffs bar Sunday morning is expected to recover.

Police say the disturbance involving about 20 people was reported just after 1 a.m. in the parking lot of the Underground Bar near West Broadway and South 29th Street. Gunshots were fired and the 20-year-old guard suffered a wound to his back.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 712-328-7867 or the Council Bluffs Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 712-328-4728.

Police say a 20-year-old security guard, of Omaha, was shot in the parking lot at the Underground Bar Sunday morning.

It happened around 1:08 a.m.

Police say they responded to a disturbance involving about 20 people in the parking lot. "As officers were responding to the call, they were advised shots had been fired and a person had possibly been hit," a release said.

Officers made contact with one of the security guards who had a gunshot wound to his back. He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center, but should recover from his injuries.

"The case remains an open investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (712) 328-7867 or the Council Bluffs Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at (712) 328-4728," a press release said.
