Security officers may not be considered traditional law enforcement by some, but under the larger pantheon of those who protect life and property, or sheepdogs protecting sheep, they are. In times of trouble, security officers are often the first line of defense, working hand-in-hand with police. And so, in times of trauma, security officers are there to offer their support.

IFPO Past Chairman Tom M. Conley, CPP, CPO, President & CEO of The Conley Group, Inc. sent out a recent email about the inclusion of his officers in the funeral procession for murdered Des Moines Police Department Sgt. Tony Beminio in 2016.

"All our officers wear mourning bands whenever an LEO is killed in our area," Conley wrote. "We also attend the funerals and are in the processional."

Conley also stressed the importance of the Officer Down Memorial Page, which sends out a notification whenever a law enforcement officer dies. If you wish, you can sign up to receive these alerts a no cost, Conley wrote.
