An article in the latest edition of Insights, "Being a Security/Protection Officer is NOT an Easy Job", by Lawrence J. Fennelly, CPOI, CSSI and Marianna Perry, M.S., CPP, CPOI, is a prime example of the knowledge found in the newsletter:

A Security/Protection Officer is not only responsible for protecting property and individuals, but also for deterring theft, vandalism and terrorism. Terrorism?
Yes, the Security/Protection Officer must constantly be vigilant. They are watching for suspicious people or activities and when something does happen, the
Security/Protection Officer is usually the first on the scene.

Many times, Security/Protection Officers have to confront individuals who are criminals, whether they are armed with a weapon or not. By doing this, they are placing themselves in danger for the job they are paid to do. Some Security/Protection Officers are responsible for operating the technology at the site where they work. This means they are watching the property using cameras and responding to alarms. Security/Protection Officers are responsible for enforcing the rules and procedures of their employer’s property. Unfortunately, many times this is not an easy task.
