The International Foundation for Protection Officers UK & Ireland presents another in its series of free webinars on Wednesday, July 21 from 7-8 AM EDT on ethical dilemmas in the security industry:

Today, the role of the Security Officer is becoming increasingly complex and demanding, both mentally and physically.

The job description, duties, priorities and expectations of the role will be defined by the employer or client, but Security Officers are sometimes confronted with ethical dilemmas. What happens when an informal or formal code of ethics, or the public good, conflicts with assignment instructions, duties, priorities and expectations? Here the Security Officer is forced to make decisions that require certain issues to be prioritized as more important and compelling than others.

• How do officers decide what to do?

• What are the consequences for both action and inaction?

• Who bears the liabilities for the actions?

These are just some of ethical questions that the Security Officer may have to answer in a split second.

We will be discussing these and other questions in this hour-long debate between some of the profession's leading figures, including Professor Mark Button, Abbey Petkar and Dr Peter Stiernstedt.
