As part of its continued efforts in global expansion, the International Foundation for Protection Officers announces the recent appointment of Mike Hurst, CPP, as its representative in the UK.
After several discussions with Hurst, executive director Sandi Davies felt confident Hurst embraces the same goals and objectives as that of the foundation -- providing educational opportunities and a pathway to enhance the careers of those in the security industry.
Hurst has spent more than 30 years in the security and fire professions, as a specialist recruitment consultant and strategic adviser with HJA Consult, formerly HJA Fire and Security. He is also co-founder of All Security Events, a security events listing site.
In addition, Hurst is vice chairman of the UK Chapter of ASIS International, the world’s largest association of security professionals, a role he has held for nine years and serves on its Professional Development Council and European Advisory Council.
He was also a director of The Security Institute, stepping down in 2017 after having served the maximum six-year term of office. In 2016 he was awarded the ASIS International President’s Award of Merit for his services to security in the UK and Europe.
Previously, he was an advisory board member to COMBAT Trafficking in Human Beings in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry, an EU funded project and was founding joint chairman of the Security Industry Authority Small Business Network.
Hurst is a regular contributor to security media and has spoken at conferences internationally. He is also currently a member of the BSI GW/3 Committee - Private Security Management & Services.
“Mike has an amazing network of security professionals and hosts incredible energy and drive," Davies said. "We are fortunate that Mike has taken on this new challenge. On behalf of the entire IFPO Team we welcome Mike and will support his every efforts."
The International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) is dedicated to providing meaningful and cost effective security training for security guards and protection officers.
We believe that education is a necessary and essential part of professional security training and the security officer’s background. IFPO serves individuals, security companies, and organizations that have their own private security staff. Our students and members benefit from the recognition and standing that the prestigious IFPO certification conveys.
