The ripple-effect wrought by the coronavirus pandemic has caused numerous examples of trauma, hardship and anxiety worldwide. It is undeniable that there is widespread dependency on alcohol, and that in many countries, it is woven into the fabric of the culture. Suddenly shutting off access -- or at least adhering to social distancing guidelines, which may trigger delays -- is possibly a consequence that may not have been imagined by most. In Pennsylvania, Gov. Tom Wolf shut liquor stores down -- all of which are owned and operated by the state -- but established minimal-contact curbside service after enduring repeated criticism. In Ontario, Canada, a man assaulted a security officer at a liquor store after growing impatient. As the pandemic continues, security officers will find themselves on the front lines of incidents such as this and need to stay vigilant.  -- IFPO.
