Chicago VA hospital security apprehend man firing rifle

Bernard Harvey Jr., of Indianapolis,, IN, charged with firing a gun outside a VA hospital in Chicago.

Great work by the security professionals at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago. Their courageous actions prevented another mass casualty event, like the recent massacres in El Paso, TX and Dayton, OH. -- IFPO.

Quick actions by security officers at a 200-bed hospital on Chicago's West Side that provides care to about 62,000 military veterans, stopped mass casualties from happening. authorities said.
Tom Ahern, a police spokesman, said the man began shooting outside the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center Monday afternoon and tried to enter the lobby.
He said security officers immediately challenged him and were able to apprehend the man near the hospital entrance.
A major police response to the facility quickly locked down the area.
"Nobody was hurt, there was nobody injured, there was nobody hit," Jeffrey Sallet, special agent in charge of the FBI's Chicago field office, said. "We avoided tragedy here in the city of Chicago today."
Authorities recovered a rifle that the man is believed to have used.
Ahern said investigators haven't determined what led to the gunfire or who the man might have been targeting.
