More saving lives, making a difference: Positive security news during coronavirus pandemic

In these challenging times, it is heartening to know that there are security professionals out there defending the public and property. So, in the spirit of positivity, here are a few recent examples of security officers' selfless actions.  -- IFPO.

In October, we brought you the story of Keanon Lowe, security officer and football coach at an Oregon high school and how he averted disaster with compassion when he encountered an armed student. Now, PrivateOfficerBreakingNews has the story about Lowe being recognized in a major way:

"Keanon Lowe has again been recognized for his heroic actions nearly a year ago at Northeast Portland's Parkrose High School, this time being awarded the Citizen Honor Award by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

The organization announced last week that Lowe was one of six individual recipients of the award. The award is given to civilians who “exemplify the values embodied in the Medal of Honor: courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship and patriotism.”

Also from PrivateOfficerBreakingNews, we have news that a zoo security officer's quick actions halted the spread of a recent fire at a South Carolina zoo:

"An attentive security officer working at the Greenville Zoo in South Carolina helped to prevent a major fire on Sunday.

The security officer noticed a fire at a shed on the property and called 911. The City of Greenville says no animals or Greenville Zoo employees were hurt after a small fire Sunday evening.

Spokesperson Beth Brotherton says the electrical fire happened around 9 p.m. and damaged a storage shed. Greenville FD quickly responded. Brotherton praised the attentiveness of the security guard who called 911.

The quick action prevented further damage, Brotherton said."

Finally, Tim Tiller, the head of security for the national Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma, took over the reigns of the museum's social media accounts last month and his exploration into social media has been whimsical and uplifting.
