Maybe robots are not the answer just yet, but there are other technological advances that can help security and law enforcement, furthering bolstering the belief that the best security plan is one that marries tech with human oversight. A caution is that as technology continues to advances, it may signal the decrease in some measures of privacy. In the case of the temperature-reading helmets, travelers are not asked permission for their temperature to be taken; however, in the midst of a global pandemic, the security of the majority appears to take precedence. -- IFPO.
LONDON May 25 2020 While countries work to contain COVID-19, many have invested in new gadgets to slow the spread of the virus. As travel bans continue to lift, some technology is a head above the rest.
They look straight out of a sci-fi movie -- RoboCop-style helmets designed to take temperatures. At Rome's Leonardo di Vinci Airport, police use them to scan incoming passengers.
"The pictures are then transmitted to a visor inside the augmented reality helmet that projects what the operator sees on his visor," said Massimiliano Moretto, a senior engineer. "It is able to detect the temperature of the single person but also of groups."
The helmets can read temperatures from more than 20 feet away, an important tool to maintain social distancing. The international airport is ramping up safety measures, as it slowly reopens to visitors.
The International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) is dedicated to providing meaningful and cost effective security training for security guards and protection officers.
We believe that education is a necessary and essential part of professional security training and the security officer’s background. IFPO serves individuals, security companies, and organizations that have their own private security staff. Our students and members benefit from the recognition and standing that the prestigious IFPO certification conveys.
