A firefighter battling the devastating blazes ripping through California was caught on video saving an American flag and draping it over the mailbox of a gutted home.
The touching footage shared by CBS News shows the firefighter making sure to hold the Stars and Stripes above the ground as he gently walks it to a mailbox in the city of Paradise, which was leveled by the Camp Fire.
The homes of about 39 firefighters have been destroyed as they work to protect others.
In Elk Grove near Sacramento, police drove down a street ravaged by the inferno and reported that home after home had been reduced to cinders, but an American flag flew on a pole in “almost perfect condition.”
Officers posted images of the flag to their Twitter account Sunday.
