The largest public health system in Florida needs more security.

Lee Health is trying to fill more than a dozen spots for security officers at its four medical centers in Southwest Florida.

The health system is expanding in some of its branches and that's created a big need.

 

"I think it would be better for a little more security presence. Right now when you walk in, you really don't see any of them," said Cape Coral resident Josh Simon.

Lee Health wants to make sure they're safe in the parking lots and once they check in.

 

"Maybe one or two patrols just to make sure nobody's rummaging through vehicles and what not. It'd be nice to know that somebody is watching over," said Fort Myers resident Jesse Evans.

 

To make up for people who've retired or the creation of new positions,  the health system needs 10 full-time security officers and a handful of part-time guards.

In all, 86 people work security at the four major hospitals in Lee County
