Orange County FA Aug 5 2017 A 47-year-old Maryland man was arrested Tuesday after he was accused of stealing tools from a Home Depot store, then brandishing a hypodermic needle and claiming he had AIDS, according to a report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

A security officer, Benjamin Cox, working at the store on Southland Boulevard near Florida Mall said he saw Dennis Hamlett take two tools from their boxes and put them in his pants at about 12:30 p.m., the report said.

When Hamlett exited the store, Cox told him to hand over the items, which were valued at $298, but Hamlett refused and denied stealing anything.

The report said Hamlett then brandished a needle at the officer and said, “You better step back. I will stick you. I have AIDS.”

Cox retreated and called 911, and Hamlett ran from the Home Depot parking lot. Deputies found him at the intersection of Lancaster Road and Luzon Road shortly after.
