UPPER EAST SIDE — An East Village man was arrested Wednesday for smashing a bottle on a security guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art during an argument over a crooked painting, police said.
Brandon Aebersold, 33, was arrested in Central Park after a police officer recognized him from a surveillance image released after the incident last week, according to authorities.

On March 3, Aebersold approached a guard inside the museum at about 6:15 p.m. and told him that a painting was hanging crooked on the wall, police said.
"The response [from the security guard] wasn't to his liking," a police spokesman said, so the suspect clobbered him with a glass bottle.
The victim was taken to the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition with a cut to his head, police said.
On Monday, police released a surveillance video of the suspect standing at a kiosk in the Fifth Avenue museum.

Aebersold was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
He has been arrested previously on charges of assault, attempted assault and burglary, according to online court documents and the city's Department of Corrections.
He has not yet been arraigned, the Manhattan District Attorney's office said.
Information on his lawyer was not immediately available.
