If you’ve had business in the Yellowstone County Courthouse in the last six months, you’ve probably had a friendly encounter with Pete “The Security Guy” Lundberg.

 

His few months on the job have had enough of an impact that on Wednesday morning about 30 people met in the courthouse lobby to surprise him with a plaque and a certificate of appreciation.

Minutes before the crowd gathered, the security guard handed a little girl a bundle of crayons and a coloring page, gifts he’s known to offer almost every small child who passes through the courthouse lobby.

Lundberg looked surprised as the crowd grouped around him.

 

“Every adult that comes into the courthouse, Pete makes them feel welcome,” said Susan Patton, an administrative assistant in the county elections office, as she presented the accolades to Lundberg.

 

And Lundberg’s treatment of kids has made a huge difference, too, she explained.

 

“You come out in the lobby and the kids are sitting by their parents coloring, they’re not screaming or running through the courthouse,” Patton said. “It’s a wonderful, wonderful thing.”

 

The crowd of courthouse workers cheered as she wrapped up her remarks.
