Security officers are tasked with protecting personnel and property, but sometimes, even they need help.
The American Red Cross has awarded its National Lifesaving Award to Las Vegas resident Zach Grogan for his role in helping to save a victim of heart attack.
Grogan, a stagehand supervisor for Henderson-based live event labor provider Rhino Nevada, administered chest compressions and rescue breathing to security guard Steve Bingham after Bingham collapsed in the basement area of the MGM Resorts Park Theater following the Jason Aldean show there last December.
The compressions and breathing administered by Grogan, as well an electric shock provided by an automated external defibrillator, brought Bingham back to consciousness before emergency personnel arrived and took over his care.
The award ceremony, normally held in person, will be conducted via video conference on the morning of Oct. 15 and presided over by officers of the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Red Cross.
