CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A man was shot and killed overnight by a security guard during an attempted armed robbery at a Sweepstakes business in east Charlotte, police said.

The victim has been identified as Julian Anthony Harris, 32. His family has been notified of his death.

CMPD officers were called to a Sweepstakes business located in the 5600 block of Albemarle Road at 12:07 a.m. Wednesday, August 23 for reports of shots fired.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Harris and an unknown accomplice entered the Sweepstakes business in an attempt to rob the store. Harris was armed with a handgun and pointed it in the direction of the office staff.

An armed security guard, who was an employee of the business, fired a single shot from his weapon, striking Harris. Both Harris and the second suspect fled the business on foot. Harris was found dead in a wooded area behind the business.

The second suspect has not yet been apprehended.

The security guard was voluntarily transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed and released. CMPD said he has been cooperative with the investigation.
