Thanks to the heroic actions of two Cleveland security officers and numerous firefighters, two children who were trapped in a burning building are now safe.

A security officer patrolling the neighborhood heard the screams of an 8-year-old girl coming from a second- floor window.

PrivateOfficerBreakingNews has the story:

He pulled his patrol car up to the building and stood on top of it, pleading with the girl to jump, according to authorities.

She was scared but eventually and jumped and the security guard caught her, officials said.

She was transported to Metro Hospital in critical condition.

WKYC identified the security officers as off-duty police officers:

Steve Pozniak and his partner Ernest Leach -- who patrol the grounds at the complex -- heard screams coming from the area.

In addition, a firefighter saved another child trapped inside:

That's when 26-year veteran firefighter Captain Tom Lally rolled up on the scene.

He bravely ran into the building before the crews' water lines were even deployed, rescuing the 1 year old, whose body was lifeless.
