The Harris County Fire Marshal's office awarded Life Saving Medals to both Kevin Taylor, Security Officer with S.E.A.L and Amin Rosano, an agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, for aiding a woman who was trapped in a burning dump truck on Madera Run Parkway on Aug. 25 2016.

"The Lifesaving Medal is awarded by the Fire Marshal to persons whose meritorious conduct includes a lifesaving and/or first aid response where the person's actions directly resulted in life-saving activities worthy of special recognition but not to the degree required for the Medal of Valor or the Medal of Honor," said Rachel Moreno, Outreach Coordinator and Public Information Officer.
Kevin Taylor, a Security Officer with a K9 who works for S.E.A.L Security Solutions, who regularly does a vehicle patrol of the Humble area, was on his post for a meeting when he heard a loud crash, which led him to run toward the scene.
"I ran outside, at that time all I could see was a fire ball in the trees right outside of the park. I started running toward it, about half way there I could hear a female's voice hollering for help. When I got closer I noticed it was a dump truck on its side," said Taylor.

Taylor recounts the effort it took to break through the windshield to try and save the woman.
"I hit the windshield three times when my baton broke and collapsed, I then used it like a chisel and stabbed at the windshield until I had broken thru it, I grabbed the broken windshield and pulled it half way out," said Taylor.
After making enough space to reach the woman, Taylor says at one point while trying to pull her out he felt like he was on fire.
"I knew the flames were close because I could feel the heat on my right leg and arm, but I knew I had to get her out. I pulled on the windshield some more 'till I started feeling the burning on my leg, I thought I was on fire.
I sustained 2nd degree burns to my right leg and right arm, cut up both hands including a deep gouge in the palm on my left palm. I did not realize how bad I was bleeding till It was all over," said Taylor.
While many people are calling Taylor a hero for risking his life to save another, he says he was just doing the right thing.
"I really appreciated the time and effort the Harris County Fire Marshalls put in to honor me for what I did. I did not do it for the award, I did it because it was the right thing to do. I do not consider myself a hero, just a human being who cares," said Taylor.
Rosano, the DEA agent also awarded with a Life Saving Medal, could not be reached for comment.
