From the IFPO's Chris Hertig, here is a recent facebook post he penned:
Concealed Carry?

Lots of folks getting concealed carry permits.

Might be a good thing as “an armed society is a polite society."

Membership has its privileges! JOIN the IFPO and see the benefits!

There are also lots of cases where aspiring assailants back off at the sight of a weapon. But there ain’t no good data on that. We don’t know for sure how often this occurs.

And active threats (shooters, stabbers, suicide bombers, etc.) require immediate – IF NOT SOONER – intervention. It’s a seconds-long window to do what is necessary to protect oneself and others.

Sadly, these types of incidents are likely to increase. All the drivers are there: mental instability, internet incubation of mental instability, internet incubation of extremist beliefs, the eventual release of hardened criminals (“5%ers”) , the eventual release of terrorists now incarcerated, etc.

And weapons are readily available. Guns. Knives. Cars. Trucks. Big trucks.

All of the above!

But having a gun for defense?

Find out how YOU can become a Certified Protection Officer with the IFPO!

Guns are dangerous. They go off.

And the bullet goes wherever the muzzle was pointed when it exited. Not where the shooter intends.

With no replay and with potentially tragic consequences.

And weapons? Well, the definition of “dumb” is taking a knife to a gunfight.

But weapons are only useful when they are in the hand of someone proficient - not “trained”, “licensed” or ”certified” – PROFICIENT in their use.

And when they are appropriate for the particular situation.

Weapons are almost invariably employed at distances closer than they are designed for. This is due to the reactionary gap: by the time you react the assailant is closer to you. 6 feet away become 2 feet away, etc.

Obviously being armed has a major impact on one’s wardrobe. Rapid accessibility is key. An automatic response under stress is vital.

And there are some legal considerations…… Just a few!

I haven’t taken this course so I can’t recommend it. But I can say that viewing the promo video is a damn good start before running out and getting a gun. The promo video was spot on.

Hope this helps.

Always Be Safe.
