SOUTH AFRICA -- TWO men were arrested by the Provincial Task Team yesterday for their alleged involvement in the murder of a 31-year-old security guard in Pinetown in March.

The guard was shot and killed at the corner of Moodie Street and Dales Avenue during a  cash transit heist.

Information received by the unit assisted in locating and arresting the men who are aged 29 and 30. Three unlicensed firearms, including a rifle taken from security guards during the shooting, were recovered during the arrest at the Umvoti Toll plaza.

The men will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 8 May for charges of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Bhekumuzi Ntuli, who was arrested on the same day of incident, is still in custody and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court again on 31 May.

KwaZulu-Natal’s acting provincial commissioner, major general Bheki Langa praised police for the latest arrests.

”Criminals must remember that you can run but you cannot evade the long arm of the law. Detectives will investigate to establish if these criminals were involved in other cash-in-transit robberies within the country.”

“The firearms that were seized will be subjected to ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes,” he said.
