From Parliament -- Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle praised the actions of the security professionals who saved a man from the icy waters of the Thames.

The BBC published a great story recently about two UK security officers and a CCTV control room operator who, through their heroic efforts, rescued a man who nearly drowned in the icy waters of the River Thames, which flows through London.

It's no surprise that the officers -- Habibi Syaaf, a Met Police constable; Ron Dowson, part of Parliament's security detail; and Dave Thomas, CCTV operator -- were humble in receiving accolades for their actions.

According to the BBC, Thomas first spotted the man and alerted Syaaf and Dowson, who found him in the water.

This is precisely how effective security should occur -- Thomas was the "eyes and ears," who then alerted the "boots on the ground" -- Syaaf and Dowson, who were able to make contact with the drowning man and rescue him.

The men posed with Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle, who praised them for their efforts. The International Foundation for Protection Officers would also like to extend commendations to the brave security professionals.

Here is part of what Syaaf said:

"I got down to the last step and urged him to give me his hand, but as I did he lost his grip from a metal mooring ring and started drifting away," he said. "I just shouted 'grab my hand' and managed to pull him back ... I'm not a hero - Ron and I just did what we are trained for and what we could do to help."
