In happened early Sunday morning at the Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, east of Orlando and police were called about a shooting in progress.
Police said that a gunman, who they have not identified, shot an elderly patient and a hospital employee who was sitting in the patient's room.
When officers arrived, two unarmed security officers at the hospital had taken the suspect down, disarmed him and were detaining him.
Titusville Police Chief John Lau said the unarmed security officers "kept significant damage from being done further.
Their actions to attack the suspect and work as a team kept the others from getting hurt - there's no question about that."
Police do not know what sparked the shooting and that it appears the shooter randomly targeted the victims.
