In this particular case, it was incredibly fortunate the suspicious bag turned out not to be an explosive device, but also equally fortuitous that there was an astute security officer at the voting precinct. As in the case of Richard Jewell, it is far better to listen to your intuition than to dismiss something as harmless on its face.

From PrivateOfficerBreakingNews:

EVERETT, Wash. Nov 2 2020 Everett Police say the Washington State Patrol bomb team worked to remove an unattended bag wrapped around a ballot box in Everett Saturday afternoon.

Business in the area near SW Everett Mall Way and Evergreen Way were evacuated.

The bag was found by a security guard Sunday morning.

Everett Police say the bag contained a car battery hooked up to a battery charger, which was chained to the box so no one could steal it.

They do not know who the battery belongs to.
