HOUSTON -- A security guard at a Walgreens on FM 1960 opened fire on two armed, masked teens who were preparing to enter the store, critically wounding one of them. He later died at the hospital.

The double shooting happened around midnight Saturday at the Walgreens at FM 1960 and Ella Boulevard in northeast Harris County, just west of Interstate 45.

Lt. L.R. Rush of the Harris County Sheriff's Office told Metro Video that two cousins, ages 18 and 16, approached the store in what authorities believe was a planned robbery.

They did not see the security guard, who came from around the corner and approached the pair. He told them to stop, at which time one of the armed men pulled a gun from his waist band and pointed it at the guard.

...

"As far as I can tell, the security guard did an excellent job," Rush told Metro Video. He said investigators will review store surveillance tapes.
